conducive with staying in business – and require funding further
research for future medicines. It is also important to remember that
the governments of other countries are like our own – they are non-
profits. However, the pharmacies in the United States are for-profit.
How can the issue of the high cost of prescription medications
be addressed? First, our government needs to ban any foreign
country from mandating any terms to our domestic corporations,
including pharmaceutical companies. If not, and with the current
healthcare travesty upon us, it will not be long before these
companies leave our Country. Second, the pharmaceutical
companies need to simply say no and not succumb to such foreign
government extortion. Third, offer special savings and insurance
programs, such as major medical coverage supplemented by
consumer funded health savings accounts.
There is presently a need for private insurance for prescriptions
only coverage. A prescription only coverage would spread costs to a
specific needs pool, reducing premiums and costs to the consumer
Many people take prescriptions and only need annual checkups to
assure the medications are effective and no modifications needed.
This would be relatively inexpensive. Another option, health savings
accounts. There are two kinds, one is through a private financial
institution and is tax deductible, accumulates year after year, and
can convert to retirement at a specified age. There is an annual
limit; however it remains a good option – for now. Remember, the
current socialist government is already placing limits on these and I
foresee them being snatched like the student loans program. I also
predict that other loans now guaranteed by the government – home
