A Patriot’s view of the history and direction of our Country
Court in an 1830’s decision in which it was affirmed that tribal
nations were ‘distinct independent political communities,’ and
remained subject to the paternalistic powers of the United States.
In that regard, tribal nations possess internal governmental power
over all affairs within the tribal nations, but have no external
authorities to develop relationships with any of the several states or
foreign nations. By that definition, substitute ‘tribal nations’ with
‘colonies’ and you find the cause of our American War for
Independence – the colonies wanted recognized and represented
sovereignty while remaining subject to England through equal
representation. When these grievances were disregarded,
independence was sought. Now, substitute ‘tribal nations’ with
‘states’ and you have the several states bearing grievances that their
sovereignty being recognized, but were disregarded. This describes
the underlying issue of the dysfunction of federal government in the
tyranny and oppression of the states and individual.
Our Country is a Democratic republic of several states united
under a federal government. As with native Indian tribal nations,
the several states are sovereign, but not the equivalent of a foreign
nation. Perhaps the several states are more accurately defined as
‘domestic dependent states’. By contrast, the Union of Soviet
Socialists Republics was a confederation of communist nations
under a central government. This was similar to tribal nations on
paper, but like our several states in reality. The importance of this
sovereignty is how I believe the several states are empowered to be
free from federal government extortion; the citizens of the states
are also free from the same. The Civil War addressed states’ rights
