The Electrical Signaling Side of Acupuncture
The body has numerous electrical flows within the
extracellular matrix which continually flow all over the
body reaching every tissue and every cell. Decades ago,
an orthopedic surgeon by the name of Robert Becker
demonstrated that these electrical signals change when a
tissue is injured. This change in the electrical signals
helps the cells of the injured tissue to understand how
their behavior needs to change in order to repair or
compensate for the injury. These electrical signals are
not a single steady signal but change over time as
different aspects of healing must take place. If this
electrical signal is absent, the cells may become
“confused” and not know what steps to take to correct
the problem.
This electrical signal has been know in China for
millenia. In China it is called Qi (pronounced CHEE)
and is considered an integral part of healing and
maintaining health. If these electrical signals cannot
flow and inform the cells of what they need to do to heal
a problem and function as efficiently as possible,
injuries do not heal and health can deteriorate.
To give an example that most people can relate to,
do you remember when you were a child or teenager
and injured yourself? How quickly did you heal at that
