factors working together to the create medical

condition. Then, given time, more and more

functions or systems related to the originally

affected one will begin to malfunction because of

the interdependent and interrelated functions of the

body. Notice in the previous graphs that over time

function decreases. This is telling you that more

functions or systems are affected and they are being

more and more negatively affected over time.

Going back to the swiss watch analogy, if only

one gear is malfunctioning, the watch repair person

can fix it quickly. However, if the effect has

cascaded to affect other gears, the watch repair

person must make certain each gear and part of the

watch is both functioning correctly as a unit as

well as working smoothly with all of the other

parts. Once again, your body is similar. If the

problem is recent, there may be only a small

problem that can be easily and quickly corrected. If

however if you have a long standing or chronic

problem, it will take more time and effort to affect

all of the functions (gears) which have been

negatively affected over time. This is why a

chronic problem requires more time and treatment
