affected one will begin to malfunction because of
the interdependent and interrelated functions of the
body. Notice in the previous graphs that over time
function decreases. This is telling you that more
functions or systems are affected and they are being
more and more negatively affected over time.
Going back to the swiss watch analogy, if only
one gear is malfunctioning, the watch repair person
can fix it quickly. However, if the effect has
cascaded to affect other gears, the watch repair
person must make certain each gear and part of the
watch is both functioning correctly as a unit as
well as working smoothly with all of the other
parts. Once again, your body is similar. If the
problem is recent, there may be only a small
problem that can be easily and quickly corrected. If
however if you have a long standing or chronic
problem, it will take more time and effort to affect
all of the functions (gears) which have been
negatively affected over time. This is why a
chronic problem requires more time and treatment
