Chapter 3

                           Internal analysis techniques

4.1 Key techniques to identify resources and competencies

It is clear that within the resource-based view, an organisation must be able to
identify its internal resources and capabilities. It must be able to identify those things
that the organisation is particularly good at in comparison to that of its competitors.
To do this it must carry out internal analysis.

Internal analysis was mentioned as part of the rational/formal approach to strategy
development. The findings from the internal analysis highlight the strengths and
weaknesses of the organisation and feed in to the corporate appraisal (SWOT).

               4.2 Resource audit

The resource audit seeks to establish the strategic capability of the organisation.
This is the ability of the organisation to perform at the level required to survive and
               prosper.
