2.6 Empowerment
Employee empowerment is where employees are given autonomy
and responsibility to undertake tasks without being directed at each
step by management.
To be able to empower staff, management has to have trust in their capabilities and
be willing to allow employees to make decisions, within set limits.
2.7 Delegation
The process whereby a manager assigns part of his authority to a
subordinate to fulfil his duties.
Advantages of delegation Problems with delegation
Senior relieved of less Over-supervision can waste
important activities time and is de-motivating.
Greater flexibility “Passing the buck”.
Allows career development Manager only delegates boring
work or impossible tasks.
Brings together skills and ideas
Manger reluctant to delegate
