You have received the following email from the CFO:

Subject: Internal analysis

You will see from the attached email that the CEO is concerned that Menta should concentrate on
“what we are good at” to ensure we are adding value to our business and ultimately our
customers. We have been asked to contribute by preparing some background information before
the next board meeting. This is scheduled for next week so we don’t have much time. I can
remember some background from my student days but you will be much more familiar with the
detail.

Please prepare a briefing note to explain the value chain and how its application could assist
Menta to understand our internal activities?

I anticipate further discussions once our findings are published. In that context please also cover
an explanation of outsourcing and how the value chain could help should we need to consider this
further.

Prepare the work that the CFO has requested. (Time 45 minutes)
