SUGGESTED SOLUTIONS

                             environmental factors and
                             social factors

alongside the standard financial statements, to enable investors and other stakeholders to make a
much better assessment of overall performance. The extra disclosures can be made in a separate
corporate social responsibility document, or as part of the management commentary presented
                      with the financial statements.
Note that the guidelines are applicable to all entities including SMEs and not-for-profit entities
worldwide, but applying these guidelines is mandatory in some jurisdictions but voluntary in
others. FNG has never made these disclosures before, so I assume that complying with the
                      guidelines is voluntary in Borland.

Application of the GRI’s G4 guidelines to FNG

The G4 guidelines consist of principles and disclosure items.

                      Principles

The principles help to define things like report content and quality. If FNG decided to present
additional information following the G4 guidelines, we would have to read these principles
carefully and make sure we follow them. The principles cover things like setting levels of
materiality, and how important it is to present clear and accurate information.

                      Disclosures
The disclosure items include disclosures on management approach, as well as the performance
                      indicators themselves.
The disclosures on management approach would give FNG an opportunity to explain how
important we feel that CSR issues are, and to explain how we manage CSR issues.
Under the G4 guidelines, the performance indicators are split into three categories: economic,
environmental and social factors. Here, FNG could explain its CSR objectives and achievements in
detail, showing comparative figures for prior years and for industry standards. In particular, we
could present the following information in each category (information taken from the CSR points
currently published on the FNG website):

                      Environmental
                             overall energy consumption levels
100% of our newsprint is sourced from sustainable suppliers

                             information about our diverse workforce
