Strategic options and choice
Strategy selection
The models we have examined in this chapter give numerous possible strategies
that the company can adopt. How does the organisation pick the most suitable?
The SAF model is one of the best ways of doing this. The model suggests that
each strategy must meet three criteria to be adopted.
Suitability – does the strategy fit the organisation’s circumstances? Does it
help it meet its mission and strategic objectives?
Acceptability – does the strategy meet the needs of key stakeholders? Will
they be happy with the proposal?
Feasibility – does the organisation have the necessary resources and skills to
undertake the strategy being proposed?
Any strategy must meet ALL THREE criteria to be accepted.
