                  RISK MANAGEMENT (P3) PRACTICE

                  TASKS

                  EXERCISE 1

                  UPDATE

It’s Monday morning, you’ve had a terrible journey into work and you’re feeling generally a bit
grumpy. Before you’ve even sat down at your desk Randal Edwards calls you into his office; he has
a very concerned look on his face.

                  TRIGGER

“Thank you for coming to see me, I hope you’ve had a better weekend than I did.

Over the weekend I was reading up on the news about PosterRend. Here’s an article on it to get
                  you up to speed.

It got me thinking that it may well be a factor in our recent disappointing results, although there
are obviously other factors in that too.

Some of the other Board members have contacted me about the news too. What concerns us is
the prospect that this sort of behaviour could be developing at Novak. Would our sales team
consider this as an approach to increase our sales?

We’ve got a meeting this afternoon to discuss it.

Please could you prepare a briefing note for me to present to the Board? I’d like you to look into a
                  few things for me.

First of all, I’m aware that bribery is a type of fraud, so please could you clearly set out why it
happens & if you think we are at risk here at Novak, plus how would we spot it?

Also, please could you explain what we should be doing to prevent fraud within Novak? And what
action should be taken against anyone who does commit fraud?

I need it within the hour, so I can review it before the meeting.”
