RISK MANAGEMENT (P3) - PRACTICE TASKS

                  EXERCISE 3

                  UPDATE

It’s a beautiful Autumn morning and you’re just discussing with one of your colleagues whether
you might be able to do (what you hope will be) the final grass cut of the year before it gets dark
tonight. As you glance back at your screen an email from Dirk Lepain arrives in your inbox:

                  TRIGGER

                  Email

                  To: Senior Manager
                  From: Dirk Lepain, CEO
                  Subject: Veterinary Medication

It’s short notice, I know, but I’ve got an urgent request for you. I need your help preparing for the
next Board meeting. I’ve been thinking about how we can arrest the share price decline, after the
failure to get regulatory approval for our three new products, we are really feeling the pressure.

While flicking through the latest news on my lunch yesterday I saw the attached article about the
Pet Show. More pets means more illness, so if all these other pet markets are booming it stands
to reason that pet healthcare should be lucrative too.

Firstly, I can see all the benefits, I’ve been thinking about them all night, but I know I am a little
excited, so I need someone with a clear head to help balance me out a little. Please can you
explain the risks of such a move to me?

I’m convinced this is going to be our saviour, so please could you also explain how we can control
                  all these risks too?

We’ve got a Board meeting later this afternoon, so could you please get back to me in an hour’s
                  time.
