Content: With comments in handwriting on the words of the one who brought it to print: comments on the foreword (on pages 4-9, 11) and on the comments of the one who brought it to print [page 14b]. One gloss written in the handwriting of the author, Rabbi David Friedman, and the rest written in scribal handwriting, most likely by the author׳s secretary, Rabbi Shmuel Noach Gottleib. An additional comment on the endpaper in the author׳s handwriting.
Unique Features: Rabbi Friedman׳s response, in which he clari- es all the laws of excommunications, was sent to his brother-in- law Yechiel Michael Pines for publication. e Maharil Diskin excommunicated Pines in 1882, and the booklet reaches the conclusion that this excommunication is not valid. Rabbi David Friedman did not see the foreword before it was published, and when he saw it he wrote glosses strongly opposing it. His glosses can be found, with several changes, in several copies of the book. It later became known that the one who brought it to print was Yechiel Michael Pines himself. ese glosses were discussed by ,׳ ]Yisrael122׳Rabbi Bezalel Deblitzki in ‘Kovetz Beit Aharon V ׳year 21, pages 180-188] and by Rabbi Eitam Henkin in‘Yeshurun 24], pages 144-151].

מופיע הערה נוספת בכתב יד המחבר.
מאפיינים יחודיים: תשובתו של רבי פרידמן, ובו ביאר כל דיני החרמות והנידויים, נשלחה לגיסו ר׳ יחיאל מיכל פינס על מנת לפרסמה. המהרי״ל דיסקין החרים את פינס בשנת תרמ״ב, ולמסקנת קונטרס זה אין תוקף לחרם זה. רבי דוד פרידמן לא ראה את המבוא לפני הפרסום, וכשראה זאת כתב עליו את השגותיו החריפות. הגהותיו נמצאו עם מספר שינויים, במספר עותקים מהספר. לימים נודע שהמביא לדפוס הוא יחיאל מיכל פינס עצמו. השגות אלו נדונו ע״י הרב בצלאל דבליצקי ב׳קובץ בית אהרן וישראל׳ [קכב, שנה כ״א, עמ׳ קפ-קפח] וע״י הרב איתם הנקין הי״ד
