by his side, Deodaat was no more than two to four feet from Swami. Using a long boom, Christine held the microphone close to the camera so she could capture intimate comments from devotees and from Swami, while Deodaat caught exquisite shots of the yearning of devotees for Swami. Detached and without self-consciousness, Swami moved to the center of the gathering. Held in the camera’s vision with devotional music in the background, he seated himself in a chair, radiating authority and love. Deodaat retreated to await Swami’s return to the inner grounds.
It was now overcast, and a long shot was questionable. Yet just as Swami rose, with precise timing the clouds parted and the sun brightly lit his movements as he walked through the crowd and back toward the camera. It was like watching a Cecil B. De Mille extravaganza, filled with thousands of extras but now with Swami directing not only the cast, but lighting from the sun as well. It was choreographed so perfectly that we felt that Swami was controlling the elements.
