 TWENTY-TWO IN 2022
This year marked the 22nd anniversary of Bunzl Canada’s annual golf tournament in support of the Labatt BTRC. Each year, Bunzl Canada assembles golfing teams comprised of vendor partners, customers and their families at the Greystone Golf Club to enjoy a day of golf while raising awareness and funds for brain tumour research. Bunzl Canada provides cleaning, safety and hygiene products and equipment to over 45,000 Canadian businesses.
To date, Bunzl Canada has raised over
$1.6 million in funding and this year achieved a record achievement by surpassing over $100,000 in donations at a single event.
This year we recognize and thank Clint O’Rourke, Events Manager, Bunzl, and the entire Bunzl Canada group for their ongoing support that has enabled funding for seed research projects that have resulted in pivotal discoveries and patient care advancements. We were able to interview Bunzl Canada’s President John Howlett and are pleased to share his responses.

AN INTERVIEW WITH JOHN HOWLETT (President of Bunzl Canada) How did Bunzl Canada become involved in supporting paediatric brain tumour research?
Bunzl became involved because my wife Leanne and I were invited to attend Kathy Douthart’s “Rigatoni for Research” dinner to support paediatric brain tumour research. There we met Kathy and Danny and were so inspired by their courage and touched by their loss that we felt we needed to – and could – help in some way. I put this to the Bunzl team and together we decided to build an industry event for our suppliers and customers that could serve as an incredible vehicle to raise support. That event became our annual tournament that today is eagerly anticipated by the Bunzl team, our suppliers and customers alike!
Each year, you sponsor a golf tournament at the Greystone Golf Club to support the Labatt Brain Tumour Research Centre. When do you start to plan each year’s tournament?
Our golf tournament is now lead by Clint O’Rourke, the Vice President of our Grocery, Retail & Processor business. In the early years, we needed to start six months in advance of the event for both the planning and drumming up of participation from vendors and customers. Under Clint’s leadership, support has grown exponentially. With the help of our many employee volunteers and the support from our supplier and customer community, who at this stage have embraced the event as their own, we’re able to start just three months in advance of the tournament.
