Have you faced any challenges convincing your colleagues/vendors/sponsors to take part in the tournament?
No, because every year our team puts on an incredible event. Clint establishes a theme for the tournament and our team sets out to make sure everyone has a wonderful experience throughout the day. Because of these efforts, everyone knows the second Tuesday of July marks the date of the tournament and sets aside that day to attend. Many supporters and sponsors remark that this is the best event of the year, and something they look forward to annually.
How did the COVID-19 pandemic affect Bunzl and your businesses?
During the first year of the pandemic in 2020 we were simply unable to hold the event, and that
was so disappointing to all of us. However, in 2021 Clint and Greystone changed the event format to accommodate pandemic restrictions while allowing the event to continue. Regular tee times were set
to avoid having people congregate in groups and risk potential exposure, and we dispensed with our annual post-golf dinner, socializing and awards. We missed the opportunity to catch up with everyone and celebrate our contribution to the cause, but we were still able to pull off the day and raise some support. The best news came in 2022 when we were able to return to our normal event. Everyone couldn’t wait to get back together, and it was our most successful yet. We raised over $100,000 in donations in a single day – our highest ever.
What is your golf handicap?
Well, many people suggest when they see me play that my golf clubs are my handicap. However, I am a 24 handicap and someone who enjoys the game and especially the opportunity it provides to spend time with great people.
What is your favourite hole to play at Greystone, and why?
My favorite hole is the 16th. From the tee you are part way up the escarpment and, on a clear day, have an incredible view all the way to downtown Toronto. A very special friend who knew this was Leanne’s and my favorite hole had a painting done that we have in our home and cherish very much!
