  Cost of Health Check-up

               Health policies may also contain a provision for a health checkup


               periodically. These may be reimbursed upto a certain limit or


               the insured has to undergo the health checkup at an insurer

               designated center and only insurer defined tests.




                     Minimum period of stay in Hospital


               In order to become eligible to make a claim under the policy,

               minimum stay in the Hospital is necessary for a certain number

               of hours. Usually this is 24 hours. With technology


               advancements, several surgeries / procedures do not need


               overnight hospitalization and to admit these claims and pay for

               these, each insurer has a “Day Care” list, i.e. enlisted surgeries/

               procedures will be admitted, and claim paid despite 24-hour


               hospitalization not needed; most day care claims are offered as

               ‘Packages’ i.e. pre-determined amount payable for pre-


               determined list of deliverable.




                     Pre and post hospitalization expenses


               Expenses incurred during a certain number of days prior to

               hospitalization and after discharge from the hospital/nursing

               home are paid as ‘pre- and post-hospitalization’. In most


               insurers it is 30 days pre and 60 days post hospitalization but the
