Evaluation of Current Program
While working at The Ridgewood Country Club, Somerset Hills Country Club,
and Augusta National, I have had the opportunity to work in golf operations with
outstanding caddie programs.
The caddie master, the professional staff, and I, are continuously evaluating the
current program and looking for ways to improve and also increase participation. I feel
the best evaluation is by word-of-mouth comments from members who use the caddie
program. Our members are always communicating with the caddie master and giving him
positive and negative feedback. This feedback helps the caddie master to easily access
where his program needs improvement.
Caddie Training
Anytime a new caddie arrives at work, he or she must go through our training
program. Here are a few steps a new caddie must go through before he or she is ready to
double-bag loop:
1. Schedule a date and time to meet with the caddie master and professional to walk
a few holes and become familiar with the duties of a caddie.
2. First loop will be with an experienced caddie (“A Caddie”) and the new caddie
will carry a single bag.
3. Next, the caddie in training will take four putters and forecaddie, or two bags and
work with an “A Caddie” in his/her group.
4. After member/Professional comments the caddie master will make the decision on
whether the caddie in training is ready to work on his/her own or if they need
more training.
