‘She is very excitable’, Penny laughed, ‘I thought she would burst a blood vessel as she spoke about Brian’.
‘I think she is just very nervous about tomorrow or else she is on something, legal I hope’, we both laughed.
‘Pull yourself together here she comes’, I nudged Penny.
‘Where were we? Oh, yes my lovely Brian do you know his parents gave us a piece of land to build our own house?’ with that bit of information Sherry downed two shots. ‘Slow down Sherry, you will still be drunk at the ceremony tomorrow if you continue drinking like that’, I advised. Penny gave a little cough in agreement.
I thought of the meager present I was going to give Sherry it crossed my mind to pretend I hadn’t got her anything then I thought of Penny’s present and decided they were both lovely gifts after all it was the thought that counted.
By midnight Penny and I had got chapter and verse of Sherry and Brian’s love life. She was so obviously besotted with him I hoped he felt the same. After putting her in a taxi and promising to be at the church early we sent her home three sheets to the wind.
‘I wouldn’t like to have her head in the morning’, I remarked, Penny nodded in agreement.
I hoped that Brian was as understanding as Sherry made out when she arrived back to their hotel in that state. I was never so glad to see a bed that night, especially one as luxurious as this. My head sank into the pillows and within a second, I blanked out the world.
Penny and I decided to have a good filling breakfast knowing we would not eat until late afternoon. There was a shopping centre a few miles away with a fancy hairdresser
