or even risk your health or your live for it?
I met two guys who do. Well, I promised not to write a political article about them because I do not want to cause them any trouble by doing so. But that seems to be a difficult issue. The guys I talked to are “Blade & Beard” from Iran. Some of you may now ask:” Iran? How the hell did you talk to them from Germany?”.
So let me explain a little bit. Those two guys have made a documentary film about themselves and about the scene in their home country called “Raving Iran”. And this film was presented here in Cologne at Helios 37, where I met the guys. I was really impressed. First impressed from the film and second from the guys themselfes. Maybe I was not enough open minded before, maybe it´s because no one in the media here reports of nice peope or circumstances from Iran, but I had not expected to meet such nice guys without any extremistic thoughts or religious attitude.
Just imagine a desert with no one around for miles and miles and then you suddenly hear a beat. First very low and soft, growing louder when you aproach the scene. And then finally you get to the place where the party is. Just in the middle of nowhere. The place is secret, the people are hand picked. No official promotion, no event placement in Facebook or anywhere else. It
I guess no one here in Europe can imagine what kind of problems and risks those guys are facing just for their love to electronic music and for their little part of freedom and this earns my highest respect. For sure, I had a lot of questions to those guys when I talked to them;
Rave and Iran. When I first heard of this I didn t really find anything to bring these two words together. Is there really an active Technbo scene in Iran?
Yes, there is a scene but it really is different from what you see here. It is kind of a secret society. Everything has to be in a really underground way so that the administration never knows about it. So the scene is really small. It´s completely different from the scene here in Germany.
How did you find your way to elektronic music?
I think lite the most others too. We´ve heard a CD and it really touched us. We´ve been making other kind of music before but from that day on we decided to go more into the electronic direction.
Did you get any support in the beginning?
Not at all. We had to make everything by ourselves and from the administration we even didn´t expect any kind of support. We more expected to get into real trouble by them. But we decided to go on and on. Sounds like we were kind of rebells but there was no political intension in what we made.
