MUSIC REVIEWS - TRANCE / HARD - LOUK & LEO DANTES [UK]
Renegade System - Scorpius [Hyper Reality]
ZONE TOP TUNE 9/10
All four releases on this imprint have so far blown us away, and whilst in Holland recently on a rather longer outing than usual, I decided to visit label co-owner Barry in his home town of Badhoeverdorp (thanks Flybe!), who played me this and then we sent it out on promo. Before I had even reached British soil again the response to this was huge, be it the wicked
original from Northern Ireland's Renegade System, Canada's acidic XLS who turn in a darker remix, or our personal favourite, the Kan Cold mix, which proves that even though he hasn't made anything for quite some time, he can certainly make a track that sorts the men from the boys. (Louk)

Blank + Jones - After Love (Kinetica Mix) [ ZONE RECOMMENDED TUNE 9/10
We loved the original of this when it came out on Gang Go back in 1999. In fact we pretty much loved every single release that came out that year and still play a lot of them now ('Old bastards' I hear you cry!). Literally every remix of this won favour with us, with the Club, Signum and Quake and the very dark Mauro Picotto mixes featuring in sets. Anywho, it's awesome when you have a track that has such strong memories with you that gets reworked
by an absolute hero that retains the charm of the original without ruining it. Kinetica proves that the Northern Irish do indeed have things rocking in the trance world (three features this month!) taking the track and turning it into a driving tech trancer that we sent out through work with Paul Van Dyk and many others are taking note! This rocked the place when we played it after Aly & Fila last month at the Advanced Music launch! 9/10 (Dantes)

Johnny O Neill + Mart De Schmidt - Unforsaken [Liquid Pulse]
RATING: 9/10
There's nothing like a bit of self promotion but this one really impressed us. We were sent it when doing the A&R session for another label and when they passed on it, we were straight on the case asking if Johnny and Mart would like to sign it! The very Teutonic sounding Mart De Schmidt, and Johnny himself both hail from Northern Ireland and on Unforsaken they treat
us to an uplifting trance number that really wins favour and reminds us of the glory days of Anjuna Beats when they first started out. On remix duties, well we had to ask Cold Rush, one of our favourite artists of the moment, who turned in a tougher reworking that really works well when we've played it out! It's out next month in all the usual places and some major leaguers are supporting this one! (Dantes)

Simon Bostock - Suraya [Monster Force]
RATING: 8/10
Ahhh, cut up vocals and an emotive synth riff really send the shivers down your spine when made correctly, and Mr Bostock has managed to achieve exactly that effect with 'Suraya'. This is a very welcome change to all the wishy washy, frankly mediocre 'Trance 2.0' that seems to be flooding the record stores, and I was all but ready to give up on searching for some new
releases to play for a radio mix until I stumbled upon this one that really left me smiling. Granted, it's nothing ground breaking, but it doesn't need to be as there is such a lack of tracks in this style, that have a nod to the glory days of old, pristinely produced but still are quite modern, that you can be assured this will be in my box all summer! 8/10 (Louk)

Ahmed Rohmel - Saudade [Blue Soho]
RATING: 7/10
We love Ahmed here in Plymouth. Have played many of his tracks, and they keep getting better each release. We feel the same about Blue Soho who have released a plethora of dynamite releases lately. Something must be in the water! Ahmed takes to the half Gaelic half Portuguese 'Saudade' and delivers one hell of an enigmatic trance number that really packs a
punch when it kicks back in. The only thing we would say that is a little on the negative side is that it doesn't really do that much different from a lot of the other trance tracks out there, but there is something about it, the melody, that is just in a different class. Getting lots of support from some of the major A-listers in Europe and rightly so, we'll be playing it for quite some time. (Dantes)

Dimension - Origami [Flashover] RATING: 7/10
Full marks must go to Holland's Flashover imprint for hyping a track in the style that they did here. Promoting it as 'ID - Origami', using the same font Tsunami recordings used on all its releases, putting the letter G from the title Origami in a bold font and managing to dupe pretty much the
entire trance community that this was the new release from Gouryella. Rather disappointingly it isn't so (as we were huge fans back in the day), however we still love a bit of Dimension here and he delivers a more uplifting than usual release (considering his previous output on Digital Society and other imprints) that has a very classic feel to it!
