Judgment Enforcement – The Step-by-Step Course
Step Two
ALWAYS VERIFY THE PROOF OF SERVICE!
What is a Proof of Service?
When someone sues someone, they must notify that person of
the lawsuit. This notification is called “service of process.”
And, this process must be proven in court. So, the person who
serves the lawsuit paperwork must fill out and give the court a
“proof of service” that the person being sued now knows about lawsuit.
“How was the Defendant Served?”
One of the first things I ALWAYS say to creditors when they call is “How was the
defendant served?” Often they say, “What do you mean?” Or, “My friend did it.” Or,
“It doesn’t matter, because I have the judgment.” But it does matter!
