NATIONAL CURRICULUM

                      1. Introduction

The introduction contains the importance of English as a foreign language. Also, it

purposed that English is important to interact and communicate in today’s globalized

world. Moreover, the main objective of the present English curriculum is written in this

                  part.

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Education recognizes the following three key issues:

                      • The importance of the English language as a tool

                      • The Communicative Approach is currently the most recognized, accepted norm

in the field of language teaching and learning worldwide

Additionally, the English curriculum guidelines are shaped by the CEFR

                      2. Approach Characteristics

In this part the curriculum specifics the communicative-functional approach for eighth,

ninth, and tenth year of Educación Genereal Básica and first, second, and third year of

                  Bachillerato.

The communicative-functional approach is characterized by two main features:

                          • Focus on real-world contexts: Students have to use the language

productively (speaking and writing) and receptively (listening and reading)

                             outside the classroom.

                          • Relationship of language forms (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation)

and function: These English techniques are very useful in order to engage

students in the use of language supported by knowledge of language

                             structures.
