How to Travel Lik e A Pro

I love to travel. Whether it is gassing up for a road trip, catching a flight,
or simply a nearby hotel, I love to travel. I prefer to pack light, but never
want to be unprepared. Because I also sometimes travel with grown children
and children, packing light is a necessity. M y daughter, when traveling
with her children, needed to be able to carry children and luggage into the
hotel in one trip. She can pack 4 people, for a weekend, into one single
        suitcase and rarely forget anything!
How do we do it? I use one suitcase, small enough to classify as a
carry-on. M y favorite suitcase is expandable, but we rarely have to expand
        it.

We prepare! Do we spend days and days packing with multiple lists? I do
have a checklist, and I?m working on a set of spreadsheets for traveling by
car, plane, and internationally. I also compartmentalize. We always make lists
of the extras we may need, like a camera or batteries, or special occasions that
        may need special clothes.
I have full size toiletries, specifically for travel. I invested in a roomy
travel bathroom bag that fits everything and has a hanger that can be hung
on the bathroom door. Some items always stay in the bag ? the soaps &
shampoos, q-tips, nail file, tweezers, bandages, Neosporin, thermometer,
sunscreen, and medicines. I use Ziploc bags, of various sizes, to help organize
inside the travel bag. By keeping these organized in my bag, I do not forget
those too-often-meant-to-bring items. This bag does not go inside my
suitcase, but can hang over the suitcase handle.

When I pack our clothes, I spread
everything across the bed. I make a pile for
each person and I break it down. Socks.
                                     Underwear. Tops. Bottoms. Dress clothes.
Swimsuits. A ccessories. Pajamas. I roll our
clothes so I can fit them all into our suitcase.

Shoes can be tricky, and if it is more than
just me traveling, an additional suitcase is
probably needed. Each pair of shoes gets is
own bag reusable grocery bag. This keeps the
dirt off the clothes. I keep phone chargers in
the front zipper pocket of my suitcase. These
are easy to forget and it is expensive to buy
one every time you leave town!
