Bonding
BONDING: Atoms bond with other atoms to fill their valence shells and become stable.
An atom always wants to have a full valence shell. • If there’s only one shell,
2 valence electrons make the valence shell complete. • If there are two or more shells,
8 valence electrons make the valence shell complete. This is called the OCTET RULE: You need 8 valence
electrons to make the valence shell complete and therefore stable.
There are many Regents questions based on this fact.
