Challenge infection with Stavropolskii strain of sheep and goat pox vaccine in sheep
and goats injected with cell culture, live virus vaccine for prevention of sheep pox
revealed the vaccine against sheep pox virus protects 100% of sheep and 80% of
goats.
When 3 sheep and 3 goats not vaccinated against sheep pox were kept together
with vaccinated sheep and goats, and underwent challenge infection with
Stavropolskii strain, 3 sheep were infected, while 3 goats remained not infected
(Table 2).
When sheep and goats, injected with aluminium hydroxide formol vaccine for
prevention of goat pox underwent challenge infection with Kho strain, vaccinated 2
sheep and 1 goat were infected (Table 3).
Challenge infection with Kho strain in 3 goats and 3 sheep not injected with goat pox
virus vaccine, kept together with vaccinated sheep and goats demonstrated all
sheep and goats were infected (Table 4).
2. Results of adaptation of sheep and goat pox viruses in primary cell culture
Two or 3 fold passages pathologic specimen taken from sheep and goats infected by
inoculations of "Stavropolski" strain of sheep pox virus and "Kho" strain of goat pox
virus in bovine and ovine fetal primary cell cultures resulted in detection of cytopathic
viral agent.
Conclusion
Our experimental results revealed cell culture live vaccine against sheep pox virus
protects 100% of sheep and 80% of goats. Therefore, it is seen that sheep pox virus
vaccine can be used for goat vaccination.
