Pushing for Platinum: How I Reached My Goal

My own personal Vitality goal this year was to reach Platinum status. And my motivator
was to receive hotel vouchers for a stay at the Ritz Carlton.

Since April, I upped my fitness level. I now wear a FitBug pedometer to monitor my daily
steps. It's on me everywhere--around the office and during the weekend. Washing my car
takes 500 steps! My wife joined me on this fitness quest. We walk at least 10,000 steps a
day. And on a recent trip to Germany and Italy, we averaged 15,000 to 25,000 steps a day
               while sight seeing.

Now I would feel odd without the FitBug in my pocket. The best part of this program is
being rewarded for choosing a healthy lifestyle. I earn five points a day for an exercise
routine I have been doing for years. My initial HRA determined my cholesterol to be
slightly above the normal range. With minor dietary adjustments and a slight increase
in physical activity, I have lowered my cholesterol to the normal range and earned 800
points. I also earned 400 points for doing the Vitality Fitness Assessment one-mile timed
walk, and an additional 800 points for qualifying at fitness level 4.

Did I get my vouchers for the Ritz Carlton? Yes – I reached Platinum status. Now achieving
this level will be my yearly goal.
