IN FOCUS

          HAWTHORNE DELUXE CINEMA PRECINCT

˃ Acoustic Compliance. The complex is located in a high density
residential suburb and the local council’s development approval
conditions included stringent conditions for noise restrictions dur-
ing the cinema and restaurant operation hours. To ensure com-
pliance with these conditions, the project brief included complex
construction detail for walls and ceilings of the cinema to avoid
noise breakout and disturbance to neighbouring residential proper-
ties. For example, 3 separate acoustic ceilings in the cinema and
specialist acoustic panelling to walls. All mechanical plant required
secondary acoustic attenuation and the acoustic fence was the first
of its kind to be installed in the Brisbane City Council’s zone.
˃ Health and Safety. The project site was located in a very busy
inner city suburb with businesses, commuters and school children
requiring use of the busy roads and foot paths. SJ Higgins Group
maintained a stringent traffic management procedure and protected
temporary wallkways to ensure the safety of the general public.

          Management of challenges
