Figure 11-7A–D. An Overhand Knot Without Letting Go, Second Method. Hold an end between the thumb and
index fingertips of each hand. A couple of inches of end should be showing, “So you can see the ends,” you tell
your audience, “at all times.” Actually, the arrangement helps you with the trick. Drape the right side of the
standing part over your left wrist and move your right hand off to the right side. You’ll have a long bight (the
longer the better) with a diagonal crossing it (A). Put your right hand in on the left side of the diagonal and
bring it out on the right side (B). Move your hands apart and things should look as in C. Drop your hands down
while simultaneously turning them inward. As the line falls from your hands the right end (1) will approach
the loop at the right side. Let go of the end on one side of the loop and catch it on the other (2). Practice this
until the movement is very smooth. An Overhand Knot will appear in the middle of the standing part as you
move your hands apart. There’ll be a little more end sticking out of your right hand than your left, but since
you started with a little end showing, a little extra won’t be noticed (D).
