to undertake.TheirYear 8 project was a “Joke Testing Lab” to put a variety of jokes (some sourced by the boys, others sourced by the Director of Drama, Mr Sperring) through their paces and explore what made a joke funny; to dissect it, dismantle it, look
at all of the minutiae, and then put it together again for an audience and hopefully make them laugh.With four distinct sections to the piece - comic skits from classic comedy pairs
With the euphoric cries of
“Be Yourself!” still ringing in
our ears, a drained and dazzled audience departed into the night.
including Fry & Laurie and Abbott & Costello; stand-up comedy from the likes of David Mitchell, Rowan Atkinson and Eddie Izzard; sitcom scenes including excerpts from Fawlty Towers and Frasier; and comedic poetry by Spike Milligan - the boys of 8H were dressed in shop coats and at caps as they put the jokes through their paces and made sure
not a laugh was missed.The boys banded
together to make one another laugh, and
this humour was transferred to the audience
in the Concert Hall in a mirthful performance
rounded off by a rousing rendition of Always
Look On The Bright Side Of Life. .................................................................
