“Music touches us emotionally,
where words alone can’t.”

all our nalists who gave a dazzling display of dexterity at the keyboard; some of the best playing we have heard in an Abrahams nal. Particular congratulations go to Aidan, Mati and Zac for winning their respective classes.
SUMMER SERENADE
Even the FIFA World Cup could not disrupt the Music Department’s now traditional showcase event of ‘three halves’ – and
the concert certainly did not disappoint.
The Senior Concert Band kicked off in the marquee as a delighted crowd watched on with a glass of Pimms in hand. Play continued in the Concert Hall with Chamber Strings, Year 7 Quartet, Chamber Choir, Cello Dectet, Big Band, Guitar Group and Senior Orchestra all performing at the top of their game. Extra time was played on the outdoor stage with the Year 8 Marimba Players, Percussion Group, Saxophone Group and both Rock Bands entertaining the audience during the second reception of the evening. Huge thanks and congratulations to all the boys who took part. There were certainly no own goals scored that evening! Bravo.
MIDDLE SCHOOL CONCERT
The Middle School Concert has become the traditional nale to the series of musical events that mark the end of the academic year. Midst the end of term heatwave,
the boys fromYears 5 and 6 gathered in
preparation for what was to be a glorious festival of music-making.The Junior Orchestra has rarely sounded better, with a programme ranging from a Haydn symphony movement to Mr Blue Sky.The roots of our success in chamber music were plain to see with the Year 6 Quartet. The Jazz Band had toes tapping and were followed by the Double Bass Group. How many schools could boast so many double bass players from just two year groups?TheYear 5 Strings showed that the future of string playing in the Upper School is in safe hands and the Junior Concert Band brought the evening to a resounding close with three well-chosen
and contrasting items.
Bravo to the boys in Middle School.
You presented a concert of which much older children would be proud.
Thanks are due to all the boys who contribute to the musical life of the school and to the dedicated team of full-time and visiting musicians who work so brilliantly to help the development of our young musicians.
