 Objective: Introducing Rupert the White Sheep
  Lesson Plan:
With all the children sitting on the carpet in front of the teacher:-

Hold up a picture of Rupert the White Sheep
“I would like to introduce you to a friend of Harriet the Cow and Georgia the Shetland Pony.”
“Can anyone tell me what he is?”
Allow the children to answer, “it's a sheep.”
“Yes, that is right. His name is Rupert the Sheep. What do you know about sheep?”
Allow the children to answer, “they say Baa, they live on a farm, they are short, sometimes they can be grey.”
Ask the children “Is a sheep as tall as a cow?”
Allow the children to answer, ‘no”
“Do you think a sheep is about the same height as a Shetland pony?”
Allow the children to answer “yes.”
“You are right, a sheep is about the same height as a Georgia the Shetland Pony. Rupert the White Sheep is the same height as Georgia the Shetland Pony, but he is not as tall as Harriet the,Cow. Do sheep also like to stand on grass?”
Allow the children to answer. “yes”
“So we know that Rupert the White Sheep is the same height as Georgia the Shetland Pony, but he is smaller than Harriet the cow.? We know that he likes to
stand on grass and that sometimes they can be grey in colour.” “Brilliant, well done everyone.”

Encourage the children to say out loud the key word: short

Have the children look up sheep, what can they learn about sheep?
• Link together the different knowledge the children have so far about the 3 animals.
• Ask questions of the children around the key concepts for each animal. Can they link the right keywords with the right animal?
