Module 1: Learning the Cognitive Framework Teacher’s Guide
Objective: Consolidating knowledge for the letter formation categories
Lesson Plan:
With all the children sitting on the carpet in front of the teacher
1. “How many animals have we learnt so far?”
2. Allow the children to time answer, “ three: cow, pony and sheep”.
3. Select the animal cards the children name correctly and place them so
they are visible to them. If they are missing any ask them to have a look
and see which one is missing.
4. Once the children have identified all three animals, hold up a starting
shape and ask the children to tell you who it belongs to.
5. Allow the children time to answer.
6. Repeat this until all the starting shapes have been allocated.
7. “Shall we play a game? Can you remember the movement that goes with
each of the animals and their starting shapes?”
8. Shuffle all the cards together. In turn show the children the card and
ask them to show you the movement.
9. Allow the children time to show you their movements.
10. “Brilliant, well done everyone.”
More to Learn:
Encourage the children to link together
the different learning, so they recall and store it altogether in their memories. Use movement, key words, noise and image.
Connections:
• Link together the starting shape, the animal character and the movement.
• Reinforce the starting shape for Harriet the Cow with the animal character and
demonstrate how you would write it on the whiteboard.
