Lesson Plan:
With all the children sitting on the carpet in front of the teacher
1. Hold up a picture of Harriet the Cow.
2. “Do you remember who this is?”
3. Allow the children to answer “it's a cow, it is Harriet the Cow.”
4. “Yes, that is right, it is Harriet the Cow. What can you remember
about Harriet the Cow?.”
5. Allow the children to answer “she is tall, lives on a farm and stands on
grass.”
6. “I want to teach you something new about Harriet the Cow today. She is tall and she likes to stand on grass. If she is standing up tall, she mak.es a straight line.”
7. “Do you think we can all stand up tall like Harriet the Cow?”
8. Allow the children time to stand up.
9. “Now are we all standing up nice and tall? Great, now can we
think how we could make ourselves taller?”
10. Allow the children time to move their bodies. Some will stand on tiptoes,
others may raise their arms.
11. “Great, let’s all make the same tall movement, so can we make ourselves taller by standing on tiptoes, and let’s raise our hands up above our heads. Stretch. Look we are making ourselves into a tall straight line.”
12. “This is Harriet the Cow’s movement. So when I show you Harriet the Cow I would like you to show me her movement.”
13. “Shall we have a practice? Everyone stand normally.” Show the picture of Harriet the Cow again.
14. Allow the children to show you the movement.
15. “Brilliant, well done everyone. Tomorrow we will see Harriet the Cow again.”
