Objective: Introducing Georgia the Shetland Pony
Lesson Plan:
With all the children sitting on the carpet in front of the teacher

Hold up a picture of Georgia the Shetland Pony.
“I would like to introduce you to a friend of Harriet .the Cow.” “Can anyone tell me what she is?”
Allow the children to answer “it's a pony, a Shetland pony”
“Yes,that is right, her name is Georgia. What do you know about Shetland Pony’s?”
Allow the children to answer “they say neigh, they live on a farm, they are round, they like to roll in mud” You may need to refer to shetland pony’s being a small pony. Ask the children “Is a shetland pony as tall as a cow?”
Allow the children to answer “no”
“Look,Georgia the Shetland Pony stands up like Harriet the Cow. What is she
standing on?”
Allow the children to answer “on grass, in the field.”
“Someone said ponys are round. What part of Georgia the Shetland Pony is round?”
Allow the children to answer “ her tummy.”
“Yes Georgia the Shetland Pony has a big round tummy. Who said she would like to roll in mud?”
Allow the children to answer “I did.”
“So Georgia the Shetland Pony has a big round tummy, and she likes to turn around in mud. We know that she is not as tall as Harriet the Cow,

Encourage the children to say out loud the key words: “Big Round Tummy”

Guide the children using the words to reinforce the key concepts of round tummy and not as tall as a cow.
