Module 1: Learning the Cognitive Framework Teacher’s Guide
Objective: Discriminating movement and animal
Lesson Plan:
With all the children sitting on the carpet in front of the teacher
1. Hold up the pictures of Harriet the Cow and Georgia the Shetland Pony.
2. “Do you remember who these are?”
3. Allow the children to answer “it's a cow. It is Harriet the Cow. It's a pony. It is
Georgia the Shetland Pony”.
4. “Yes, that is right. We have Harriet the Cow and Georgia the Shetland Pony. Are these two animals friends?”
5. Allow the children to answer “yes.”
6. “Let’s see what we can remember about the movements for these
animals.”
7. Hold up one of the animal cards. “Can you show me the movement?” 8. Allow the children time to stand up.
9. Allow the children time to move their bodies.
10. If they cannot remember then demonstrate the movement again. Make
sure they remember all the points of each movement.
11. Show the next card. “Can you show me the movement for this animal?” 12. Allow the children time to stand up.
13. Allow the children time to move their bodies.
14. Again, correct if there are any errors in the movements.
15. “Brilliant, well done everyone.”
More to Learn:
Turn the learning around. You show the movement and ask the children to tell you which animal you are.
The children can say the name or make the sound.
Connections:
Support:
Consolidate the learning so far so
the children can discriminate and select the right movement for the right image.
• Link to the words tall and straight with Harriet the Cow, and round tummy and turn around with Georgia the Shetland Pony.
• Link to the visual image with the movement and the movement to the visual image.
