Module 2: Getting Ready for Writing Teacher’s Guide.
Objective: Colouring the animal characters - colour by dots
  Lesson Plan:
Learning to colour in, paying visual attention to the coloured dots, their placement and which parts of the animal to colour in which colour.
Colouring in smaller boundaries learning to control the force and extent of the movements in the hand.
1. On a table provide the children with a copy of pages 30 - 35 from the Activities Manual or off page IWB101/105 from the IWB programme and a selection of colouring tools.
2. Explain to the children that the coloured dots show them the colours they need to use to colour in the animals.
3. The children can then complete the worksheet independently.
 More to Learn:
1. Young children are very visual, having a
completed worksheet will help the children to understand what is expected of them.
Support:
Things to encourage when the children are colouring:
1. Changing colour.
2. Making larger or smaller controlled strokes
and to move from scribbling to colouring.
3. Making the direction of the colouring
horizontal or vertical.
4. Positioning the paper and crayons to
encourage an understanding of the vertical midline of the body. The paper is positioned in line with the midline in the body, slightly
slanted to the left for a right handed child and to the right for a left handed child.
To add resistance and increase the sensory awareness to the outside edge of the shape, add a line of glue, so the children can feel the edge and know when to stop.
