P. 23

 Objective: Which is the tallest?
Module 2: Getting Ready for Writing Teacher’s Guide.
    Lesson Plan:
Learning to discriminate the concept of size tall and short.
Learning to sequence size in order of tallest to shortest, or the other way around.
1. Provide each child with a copy of page 64 in the Activities Manual or access the games on the Interactive Whiteboard Programme.
Independent ‘have a go’ work:
2. Ask the children to look at the different pictures.
3. In each row ask the children to circle the tallest one.
4. On another day you can ask the children to circle the smallest one.
 More to Learn:
1. This is a great activity to combine with
other skills such as cutting.
2. You can use page 48 in the Activities
Manual so the children can order the different Harriet the Cows in order of size. You may need to cut out the square. Laminate them so they can be used as a game.
3. You can use page 50 in the Activities Manual to show Harriet the Cow as the tallest animal.
4. The images on this page can be laminated and cut up so the children can learn to order the same image from the tallest to the shortest.
Support:
Reinforce height within the classroom, amongst the children and in objects within the school environment.
