IWB000 - Motor Activty - Tracing Georgia the Shetland Pony’s starting shape
Georgia the Pony is the roundest of the animals. Her starting shape is the up and over shape. Practise drawing the shape. Start on the grass, draw up and over to the next ponys head, stop turnaround and come back, but follow the circle line back up to the head. Stop here.
Copy the starting shape on the lines.

Objective: Tracing Georgia the Shetland Pony’s starting shape
Lesson Plan:
Linking Georgia the Shetland Pony with the up and over starting shape whilst practis- ing the curve shape on the llustrated Paper for spatial position.
1. On a table provide the children with a copy of pages 88-89 from the Activities Manual or print off IWB223 from the IWB programme and a selection of pencils.
2. Reinforce to the children using the movement for Georgia the Shetland Pony taught in Module 1: Building the Cognitive Framework, that she stands on the grass and reaches up to the helicopter. Explain that Georgia the Shetland Pony’s head is there to show them where to start, go to and then end.
3. The children can then complete the worksheet independently.
Things to Consider:
1. Use the Wipe and Write Boards to
reinforce and help the children to practise writing the starting shape on Illustrated Paper.
2. Keep a record of each child’s performance. It represents the child’s readiness to
learn to write their letters.
3. Young children are very visual. Having a completed worksheet will help children to understand what is expected of them.
Support:
Use hand over hand to help support young children so they can ‘feel’ the movement and understand how to control the movement in their upper limbs.
Use vertical surfaces. This helps with visual tracking.
Large movements are easier than small movements. Create opportunities to do similar activities within the classroom environment.
