Objective: Tracing short straight lines
Module 2: Getting Ready for Writing Teacher’s Guide.
Lesson Plan:
Developing early motor control in combination with eye-hand coordination. Linking Rupert the White Sheep with short straight lines.
1. On a table provide the children with a copy of pages 78-79 from the Activities Manual or play the activities on the IWB programme and a selection of pencils.
2. Demonstrate and explain to the children that they are expected to trace over and draw the short straight lines to complete the pictures.
3. The children can then complete the worksheet independently.
Things to Consider:
Support:
Use hand over hand to help support young children so they can ‘feel’ the movement and understand how to control the movement in their upper limbs.
Use vertical surfaces. This helps with visual tracking.
Large movements are easier than small movements. Create opportunities to do similar activities within the classroom environment.
