Annual Flag Day Ceremony
On Sunday, June 22, 2025, St. Michael
Church held its annual Flag Day Ceremony
after the 9 am Divine Liturgy. Very Rev. Fr.
Kevin Marks blessed the new flags, which
were purchased through the GCU Parish
Social Grant, at the end of the Liturgy. At the
Social Center flagpole, Parish Coordinator
Bill Dzuricsko led the ceremony which
began with a welcome and a moment of silence for all of the deceased
parishioners and veterans over the past year. The program then included
some Flag Trivia questions which were answered by the attendees. Parish
Air Force Veteran Norbert Vasil, with help from Karl & Calix Gibbons, lowered
and removed the old flags and replaced and raised the new flags. After the
Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the National Anthem, a patriotic
poem was read. Finally, after the singing of several patriotic songs, the
program concluded with the singing of God Bless America. A special “Thank
You” to Mike & Alyssa Vasil for working with the Hermitage Volunteer Fire
Department to keep our Social Center flagpole in excellent working order
and for taking photos of the event. Finally, thank you to all of the parishioners
who attended our annual Flag Day Ceremony and especially the Gibbons
family for their enthusiastic singing!
