GPS USE AND COURSE BUOY LAYING

        Where possible do not use Osprey boats to lay or retrieve the course, try and use local organisers’
        boats.

        If Osprey boat needs to be used lay protective mats on the deck of the boat and use the metal door
        protectors.

        LAYING THE COURSE
        Ideally 3 persons per crew – driver – 2 crew/course layers absolute minimum is 2 people
        Lifejackets to be worn.
        Knot tying – only recognised knots should be used, mainly the bowline and reef knot.

        Use of GPS only by those familiar with it.
        Encourage UIM commissioner to take trip around course when laid at end of  final race retrieving
        The course take up buoys, weights according to pre-arranged plan if possible using local boats.
        Local arrangement vary, bring weights buoys to shore – buoys air filling screws removed to allow
        Deflation. Return oxygen cylinders to local providers retrieve any medical or other kit temporarily
        Used by others.

        CREW TASKS PRACTICES/RACES – 2 BOATS AT ALL TIMES ON STATION

        On station with all crew ready at least 10 minutes before practice/race start time.
        Maintain lookout at all times 360 degrees if in middle of course.
        Crew agree which sector each takes.
        Look-out – for boats involved in incident.
        Damaged craft eg pickles, airbags blown etc.
        Hazards eg wash, objects/persons in water, buoy problems – drifting/puncture, Wild life.
        Radioman responsible for communicating info to crew that he/she hears on radio from control and
        vice versa.

        SPECIFIC CREW TASKS.


        DRIVER
        Experienced and certified.
        Wears lifejacket / wetsuit or both.
        Responsible for safety of boat, crew, and passengers, other craft in vicinity.
        Position boat for recovery of the casualty onto a stretcher.
        Assisting with medical kit oxygen etc.
        Use of lifting stabilising frame utilising a winch.


        RADIOMAN / PRIMARY CARE

        Wears lifejacket / wetsuit or both.
        Water distribution.
        Keep boat tidy.
        Flag waving/Lights.
        Tying up securely.
        Recovery of stretcher with victim onto boat.
        Primary assessor of patient and provider of medical care.
        Fire extinguisher duty.
        Use of lifting stabilising frame utilising a winch.
