2019 YEAR END REPORT 8  LITERACY VOLUNTEERS OF THE MONTACHUSETT AREA Literacy Volunteers – Promotes literacy skills that empower adults to realize their personal goals. Provides free, confidential, and individualized tutoring in basic literacy and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to adults in the Montachusett area through the use of professionally trained and supported volunteer tutors. L.U.K. CRISIS CENTER, INC. Transition to Independent Living (TIL) Services– Assists older adolescents and young adults to take charge of their lives and reach their fullest potential. Youth receive intensive case management including links to area resources and educational and vocational referrals. Youth and young adults have the opportunity to learn critical skills necessary to function and compete in the adult world. MONTACHUSETT HOME CARE CORPORATION Money Management Program – Provides services to ensure financial stability and security for seniors and adults with disabilities in the community through Bill Payer volunteers and Representative Payee staff. Volunteer Companion/Escort Program – Provides services to seniors and adults with disabilities to enable them to continue living independently in their homes through a range of services, including companionship, escort to and from medical appointments, shopping assistance, respite for caregivers, and S.H.I.N.E. (Serving Health Information Needs of Elders). MONTACHUSETT OPPORTUNITY COUNCIL (MOC) CARE AIDS Services Food Resource Program – A multi-service program that provides food resources for individuals living with HIV/AIDS in the area. Fitchburg Community Based After School Program Collaborative – Addresses the prevention of youth violence, drug abuse, and teen pregnancy. Geared to engage low-income children and youth by collaborating with existing, successful programs. MONTACHUSETT OPPORTUNITY COUNCIL CON’T. MOC Homework Center – Provides after school homework support to at-risk youth living in Fitchburg Housing Authority’s Green Acres Village. The Homework Center aims to create a safe environment where youth have access to homework assistance and the opportunity to participate in organized, educational, and recreational activities. MONTACHUSETT VETERANS OUTREACH CENTER, INC. Services for Veterans – Provides support to military veterans and their families in need to develop a resilient, self-sufficient lifestyle essential to succeed in today’s environment. NEW ENGLAND FARM WORKERS COUNCIL Fuel Assistance – Provides funding to prevent utility shut off for low-income families, including migrant and seasonal farm workers. NORTH STAR FAMILY SERVICES (FORMALLY MONTACHUSETT INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK) MIHN Family Shelter – Provides safe and clean housing in a congregate setting, addressing the needs of up to eight families. Staff and volunteers help each family transition back to permanent housing through case management and benefit assistance. OUR FATHER’S HOUSE Fitchburg Area Food Pantry – Provides food on a regular basis to families and individuals who do not have the resources to obtain food. Street Outreach Worker – Provides homeless outreach in North Central MA. PATHWAYS TO CHANGE Sexual Assault Youth Education (SAYE) Program – Provides age and culturally appropriate education/ prevention services designed to change social norms within communities to reduce the perpetration of sexual assault across the life span.
