(Morning Session) SUSTAINABLE
FASHION
CHALLENGE
Change needs to start somewhere, and the best place for 2019
change to start is with the young minds!
Sustainable fashion is about consuming fewer items in a
smarter manner. A sustainable wardrobe will help to save GRADE 9-12
money in the long run. If you want to take care of the
environment without sacrificing your sense of style and
your love of fashion, GIHS Sustainable Fashion Challenge
2019 was the place to start.
The young GIHS designers of grade 9-12 loved the creative
challenge of restyling some forgotten pieces and sharing
their ideas in the form of creatively designed outfits that
were gracefully carried by our gorgeous models on the ramp.
The outfits designed were ethical, green and eco-friendly
with a high focus on recycle and upcycle practices.
The zero waste, reconstruction and upcycling challenge
provided an opportunity for GIHS designers to gain
attention and promoted the 3 R’s -Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
garments rather than have them sent to a landfill.
One of the greatest things that the students learned from the
challenge was that sustainable fashion isn’t necessarily out
of reach!
