REPORT ON DIGITAL RESOURCES &
YARDSTICK ACTIVITIES
GIZMOS:
OBJECTIVE:
❖ To support personalization and
differentiation through the use of ICT.
. ❖ To extend the scope and reach of students’
learning beyond the walls of the classroom.
❖ To develop key reading sub-skills such as
a) skimming, b) scanning, c) identifying
the main ideas of texts or paragraphs, and
d) guessing vocabulary from context.
Gizmos allow students to go beyond memorizing facts, formulas and
mnemonics, and instead enable students to develop a deep conceptual
understanding of underlying principles. Our grade 5 to 8 students use Gizmos
to interact with and explore math and science topics. Gizmos are highly
interactive, online simulations that help students develop a deep
understanding of challenging mathematical topics and the "hows" and "whys"
behind them. With Gizmos, students don't just read or listen or watch.
Instead, they are actively engaged, manipulating key variables and working
with multiple visual representations to truly make sense of the math they are
learning.
