The following comparison chart reminds readers of
the essential criteria of each knot, hitch, and bend in
the book and suggests an application. It can be helpful
to see the entire list, and comparing and contrasting is
a valuable tool. Remember, the strength, visual clarity,
efficiency, security, and failure mechanism of any knot
or hitch usually suggests the most common applica-
tions. That’s part of what it means to COPE with the
rope.
