Bight. There is a
       tongue on one side
          of the bight and
         rope ends on the
                  other.

the rope look unique. The working end usually looks
like a tongue, and the standing end usually has the
       rope ends along its length.
Loop. Taking any segment of a rope and twist-
ing it, so that the standing end and the working end
cross each other, making a circle, is called a loop. It is
important to know that loops have a directional qual-
ity. A loop can be made by twisting a segment of the
       rope in either direction.

                                       Loops have
                                       a rotational
                                       aspect, an
                                       important
                                       thing to
                                       remember
                                       when tying
                                       knots such as
                                       a bowline.
