Industry Insider:
Asian Cruise Traveller Duty & Tax Free Retail
2.1.2 CHINESE HONG KONG
88% of Hong Kong sea cruise travellers recall a Duty / Tax Free service from their last trip. Despite the slightly lower rates of purchasing compared to some of the other nationalities sampled in this report (Chinese Mainland & Taiwanese), more than three quarters of Hong Kong travellers make a purchase from a Duty / Tax Free offer.
The stronger performance of the on-land offer compared to on-board retail is most likely due to the signficant retail investment that has recently occurred at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Cruise Terminal.
AWARENESS
88% of Hong Kong cruise travellers were aware of a Duty / Tax Free service on their last trip. Awareness is slightly higher for on-land stores compared to on- board, (60% vs.56%) potentially due to the offer available at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal.

BROWSING
As is the case with Chinese mainlanders, a very high proportion of Hong Kong travellers aware of the service go onto browse the offering. A very marginally higher incidence of browsing occurs on- land with Fashion & Accessories the most browsed category.
PURCHASING
Although a high proportion of Hong Kong travellers make a purchase from a Duty / Tax Free offer (71%), the rate of those browsing go onto make a purchase is the lowest of all nationalities in this research. Emphasis should therefore be placed on purchase conversion among Hong Kong travellers.
