CATEGORY BROWSING...
Our research findings show that several differences are apparent between the leading categories browsed by Asian travellers within the Cruise Duty / Tax Free retail channel compared to the wider Global Duty / Tax Free retail channel.
For example, in previous research we have found an airport stores footfall is broadly driven by high Alcohol, Beauty and Confectionery category visiting, with categories such as Fashion & Accessories and Jewellery & Watches attracting lower footfall
However, in our research findings, Asian cruise travellers at both on-board and on- land stores are far more prominent visitors of Fashion & Accessories, Jewellery & Watches, and Souvenirs with 59%, 56% and 55% of service visitors browsing these categories respectively.
The prominence of Fashion & Accessories and Jewellery & Watches in particular illustrates the extent to which the Asian traveller is looking for a high-end, luxury shopping experience whilst cruising.
This being said, all eight categories we have covered in this research have high levels of browsing, with Alcohol, Beauty and Confectionery each driving browsing levels of around 50% among those visiting a Duty / Tax Free store.
Therefore, whilst a trend towards luxury is clearly apparent, this illustrates opportunity for the whole Duty / Tax Free offering among Asian cruise travellers
