job working as a craftsman for the Art Institute of Chicago. In the early 1900’s, the institute began a miniature project that replicated rooms found throughout Europe and America in dioramic form. To take part in the exhibit, Boroian taught himself how to needlepoint and created the tiny area rugs found in the works of art.
Those rugs, measuring anywhere from one inch to 12 inches long, are still on exhibit at the Institute.
Boroian eventually found himself traveling to west coast, first arriving in Yettem before finally settling in Dinuba. Here he continued his work as
an artist, perfecting his craft as a needlepoint artist.
He did a lot of his work in a small studio behind his home on, fittingly enough, the 200 block of North K Street. It was there he met neighbor, and current Dinuba City Council member, Maribel Reynosa.
“He was always working on something,” Reynosa recalled. “I remember him working in his studio and he would
Two of those making the trip were Darlene Chardukian and her daughter Marina of Fresno.
“This is our first time out to Dinuba,” said Darlene. “We received notice in the mail from the Conservancy and thought this would be a great opportunity. This is a really neat thing.”
The works of “K”, as he was commonly known, ranged from highly detailed charcoals to intricate needlepoint pieces of colorful geometric patterns.

Art was his life, all one hundred years of it. The works of artist Katchador Boroian spanned a lifetime and followed him all the way to his home in Dinuba, where he spent the majority of his life.
Saturday, much of his work was presented in a grand exhibit at the Alta District Historical Society’s White House. The event was held in conjunction with the Armenian Cultural Conservancy of Fresno, whose members also made the trip to Dinuba to see his works.
Artist Katchador Boroian made this purse in 1986 as a graduation gift for neighbor Maribel Reynosa. Saturday Reynosa brought the purse to the art exhibit, to the delight of many in attendance.
His life, according to Deacon Van Der Mugrdechian of Fresno, a historian, began in the northwestern region of what is current-day Armenia. As a child, he and his family escaped what was the first massacre at the hands of the Turks in the late 19th century.
After receiving his initial college education at an Armenian College in what is now southern Turkey, Boroian decided to continue his studies abroad and moved to the United States. In the states he studied at the Chicago Institute of Art.
While in Chicago, Boroian managed to secure a

As a high school graduation gift to Reynosa,
Boroian made her a purse, a unique piece of needlepoint she has to this day, wrapped carefully for safe keeping. Saturday, Reynosa brought her graduation purse with her, to the delight of many an attendance.
Boroian lived in Dinuba up until 1987, when he went on to spend his remaining years at the Fresno Armenian Home. He lived to be 100 years old, passing in the year 1989.
Of all the works displayed in Saturday’s exhibit, the most recent piece was dated 1989.
