Matty Hedgehog and the Paper Chase
‘Not for a while, my dear,’ said Edward. ‘All you need to do right now is see your son and look after each other. Here we are.’
Betsy was confused when Edward didn’t mention taking Matty home. She had assumed that they were there to do exactly that. Sam went inside to speak with Doctor Drake.
‘I’m so sorry, Sam. Here, sit on the bed. He’s semi- conscious and maybe in a lot of pain, so Sophia believes he will benefit from a slumber spell wish to make him sleep for a few days, otherwise, his body might shut down. This is the best we can do for him, right now. Do you understand, Sam?’
Sam nodded and kissed his son, and when he came out, he was visibly shaken. Betsy stared at him. ‘He’s going to die, isn’t he?’ she cried.
‘No, of course not. He’s alive but not fully conscious. Doctor Drake said it will be a few weeks before we will know if the injury is permanent. Sophia has asked for you. She is going to put him to sleep for a few days with a slumber spell wish. It will prevent him moving around and help his body to heal.’
Betsy stood up, her face stiffened and she shook her head. ‘No, no.’ Tears trickled down her face as she turned away leaving Sam alone. ‘I came here to take him home. I’m sorry, I can’t see him like that. I just can’t. Please take me home, Edward.’
